The Soiux were replaced by Westland Gazelle AH.1s stationed at St. George’s Barracks.

The following are Gazelles that are known to have served with the Salerno Flight. Those that were on the island at the time of the British departure from Malta were shipped out in mid-April 1977 on board the RFA Sir Percival.

Westland Gazelle AH.1	XX377/E	f/f 26/09/1974, d/d 08/10/1974, w/o 06/06/1982, when the aircraft was hit by a missile from a British ship while near the summit of Mount Pleasant. All four crew were killed. The identification system had been switched off as it was interfering with the Army’s weapons systems. The ships crew had considered it to be an emey aircraft.

Westland Gazelle AH.1	XX383/G	f/f 29/11/1974, d/d 19/12/1974, to Shawbury for storage, 16.04.06, sold 15.01.10 to Whtham Special Vehicles, Colsterworth, Lincs, transported out 05.10 to Stapleford Tawney.
